The Spin - April 2019

Out and About

With the wedding season just leaving the starting line for 2019, and prom season at full tilt, we're finding ourselves rather busy here at Tu-Can Jamz.  Following a slower period waiting for old man winter to pack his bags and head north, spring has busted out - and oddly resembles a thick yellow blanket (living in NC that's an easy reference to understand).  If you were lucky enough to have an outdoor event before the pine spores went POOF then Dilly Dilly to you!

Tobacco Road Marathon

Over the last month we've done several events, a few of which we'll share a tidbit or two.  I shared details of the first one last month when we helped with the Tobacco Road Marathon.  This was our second year volunteering our services, and in doing so help the TRM reach a milestone of charitable contributions in excess of $1,000,000.

A 'Packed' House

We had the honor of playing at the NC State University Club for the wedding between two really fun individuals and their families.  In our consults with the couple it was learned of their propensity for alternative rock/reggae.  Liberal doses of Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, Rebelution, and the like, sprinkled with a little Bob Marley and Jimmy Buffet made for a very unique ambience.  In addition to one side from the NC State side of the fence, the other side represented the Virginia Tech Hokies, so it was a 'sporty' affair.  As I walked up to one of the guest tables, low and behold was a basketball game streaming on an iPhone... did I mention this was smack in the middle of March Madness?  I was even asked to play Metallica's Enter Sandman and get the crowd to jump as if they were in Lane Stadium for the introductions.  Aside from all the athletic connotations this was truly an inspiring ceremony and reception.  Congrats to the newlyweds... How was that Jamaican honeymoon?

Not In Turkey Today

There is a place in Chapel Hill, nestled among the trees down a country road.  It provided the charm on a perfect sunny day for a wedding between two very special people.  Lystra, now part of present day Turkey where the origin of the name comes from Ancient Greek, lends it's namesake to the Old Lystra Inn, owned and cared for by the Pendola's.  On this day Jennifer and Paul chose a trio of performers to render live editions of several christian songs.  The harmony was amazing.

Following the ceremony, the reception was a laid back affair with a lot of socializing, dancing and a host of games chosen by the couple.  We provided dual screens for a slideshow of their travels and engagement that ran all evening.

Surrounded by very close knit family and friends, everyone had a great time and the newlyweds started their journey together as one.  Picture perfect as it should be.

Line Em Up, Knock Em Dead

If one thing is for sure, when it comes to Prom the attire goes POP!  These students came dressed to the nines and ready to get the sonic juices flowing!  Being a small school, everyone knows everyone.  They study together, and I have a suspicion they play together too.  All of them knew EVERY line dance we played, ALL the moves ALL the time.  It was a sight to see.  We've done this one a few years running now, and it keeps getting better every year.  Big shout out to Granville Early College High School, you guys rock!
